World Event Fridays
Each Friday we will begin the day by discussing current events that are pertinent to our community here at CHAMPS and our country as a whole. Students may prepare a 1 Paragraph Summary of a news story they think is important and present it in class. The student must relate their story to one of the major themes we will cover in our course. These themes include: Freedom, Democracy, Justice, Opportunity, Morality and Overcoming Obstacles. This is worth 5 extra credit points. Cite your sources!

Super Narrative
You will continue to build the story you create
d for the Native American Super Hero Project into a short story at least two pages in length. It should be modeled on the personal narratives we have been working on this semester. Your protagonist may also be a super villain. This is worth 10 extra credit points.

The History of The Earth: A Narrative Modeled on the Native American creation legends you researched and we read in class, you will tell the actual scientific story of the earth's creation in narrative form. You may incorporate characters at the atomic level. Your characters could include, but are not limited to Hydrogen, Oxygen and Carbon. You may give elements like fire and water personalities or you may tell the story of a single universal natural force like gravity or entropy. This is worth 10 extra credit points.

Historical Turning Points Reenactment Video
Students will individually or in a group, write, produce, direct and perform a 2-5 minute video that will recreate one of the turning points in the lives of one of the authors we have read or in the lives of one of their characters. Special attention will be paid to the writing of the piece as well as the historical accuracy and integrity of the characters. A final script must be submitted and approved before shooting. This assignment will be worth 15 extra credit points but may not be substituted for a major essay assignment. An extra 10 points will be awarded for a written documentation of your process. You will do research into one of Benjamin Franklin's many inventions. You will summarize this research in no less than 250 words. The summary will be worth 10 Extra Credit Points in the Project category. You may then decide to recreate one of Franklin's inventions or experiments. That will be worth 10 Extra Credit Points in the project category. You can earn an additional 10 Extra Credit Points by explaining your process of recreation in a descriptive essay.

Virtue Log

Can you stick to it for a week? You will select one of the virtues discussed in Franklin's Autobiography and listed in our textbook and see how well you can apply it to your daily life. You will keep a journal like Franklin's measuring your success each day for seven days. 5 Extra Credit Points

In honor of an American hero and true master of language, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., you will be awarded 5 extra credit points for drawing Dr. King in action. 5 Extra Credit Points. Due 1/17

Martin Luther King Poem
5 extra credit points for writing a poem about Dr. King in the style of one of the poems we are reading for GetLit. 10 Extra Credit Points will be awarded to a sketch accompanied by a poem. Due 1/17 To view a poem about Dr. King click here.

Any additional finished work posted to your web page which was not originally assigned as posted work will be awarded 2 Extra Credit Points.

You will earn five extra credit points for a complete and correct Theatrical Review of the hit musical that is the talk of Van Nuys, In The Heights.

Write a Review of Cesar Chavez, the movie.
For five extra credit points write a review of the film depicting the life of one of California's most important social activists. Use the same format as you would to write a Theatrical Review.
